About Us

Our history dates back to the 1960's, when a young and ambitious fisherman named Barry Cohen began processing his catch in Avila Beach, California. Unlike most “standard” fisherman, Barry had a philosophy that all of his fish were to be hand filleted, and hand packed with 0% preservatives and 100% care. Barry was also the first fish processor to pack his fillets into boxes, to give his products even more of a quality edge over the competition. The seafood industry quickly recognized Olde Port Fisheries as having top quality seafood. Wholesalers all over California became accustomed to looking for the box with the “happy fish logo” on it to know they were buying quality.
 
Today, Olde Port Fisheries is nationally recognized with the “quality first” motto when it comes to fresh seafood. With the leadership of Barry’s son, Michael, the company has recently expanded its reach into new waters, including the opening of fresh seafood stores, a weekly presence at nine different Farmer’s Markets, and the launching of a state of the art e-commerce website allowing customers the convenience of ordering fresh seafood from their pajamas and having delivered the very next day!
